  The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West。 All people living away from home go back, becoming the busiest time for transportation systems of about half a month from the Spring Festival。 Airports, railway stations and long—distance bus stations are crowded with home returnees。

  The Spring Festival falls on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month, often one month later than the Gregorian calendar。 It originated in the Shang Dynasty (c。1600 BC—c。1100 BC) from the people's sacrifice to gods and ancestors at the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one。

  The Lunar New Year is a great occasion to the Chinese people. It lasts about the first four days of the year, during which people do not work except for the workers on duty. Students do not go to school, and shops are closed.

  Several days before the new year, people begin to prepare. Farmers kill pigs, sheep, cocks and hens. City dwellers buy meat fish and vegetables. Houses are cleaned; coupletsare posted on the doors. Colourful lanterns are hung at the gate. On the eve of the new year, each family has its members gatherd together and eats a family reunion dinner. After the meal they watch TV until the clock strickes twelve. Then every family sets off long strings of small firecrackers and other fire works to welcome the new year. On the first day of the new year, almost everyone is dressed in his or her best. When people meet on the way, they say to each other "Happy New Year".

  Friends and relatives pay new year calls and gives presents to each other. Children indulge themselves in games.

Chu Yuan drowned (溺死) on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C. Chinese citizens now throw bamboo leaves (竹叶) filled with cooked rice into the water.

  Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating tzungtzu and rice dumplings(粽子).

  The celebration's is a time for protection (防护) from evil (邪恶) and disease (疾病) for the rest of the year. It is done so by different practices such as hanging healthy herbs on the front door, drinking nutritious concoctions (营养品), and displaying (展示) portraits (画像) of evil's nemesis(邪恶报应), Chung Kuei. If one manages to (成功做...) stand (直立)an egg on it's end at exactly 12:00 noon, the following year will be a lucky one.

  Today, people eat bamboo-wrapped steamed glutinous(粘的) rice dumplings called zongzi (the food originally intended to feed the fish) and race dragon boats in memory of Qu's dramatic death.

  According to our hometown custom, new year's Eve morning, our whole family together to start cleaning. Some of our house swept dust; some cleaned the windows; some were sweeping the floor; some were trailing; everyone was so busy.   People are greeting the arrival of the Spring Festival. In the afternoon grandma will burn a lot of delicious food, look at what delicious dishes, smell the attractive fragrance of my mouth water will flow down. But grandma said she would have to eat a reunion dinner together when everyone arrived at night. No way, I could only swallow the flow of saliva into my stomach. Moreover, in the evening of the Middle-Autumn Festival, people get together in a vacant place, eating delicious moon cakes while appreciating the beautiful moon hanging in the dark sky. To conclude, the Middle-Autumn Festival is a very nice festival for Chinese people. Last Qing Ming Festival, I return home to worship my grandfather. Qing Ming Festival is a folk Festival.
